About

Kate Brooks began working as a freelance photojournalist in Russia at the age of 20 while still a Russian studies student. Her photographs documenting child abuse in state orphanges were published worldwide through Human Rights Watch and used to campaign for orphans’ rights.
Kate moved to Pakistan following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the United States. Her aim was to document the impact of American foreign policy on the region and its people in the wake of the American led operation that ousted the Taliban.
In 2003, Kate covered the invasion of Iraq and the beginning of the insurgency for Time magazine.
Kate has since worked extensively across the Middle East and South Asia, covering many of the major news stories in both regions and photographing life in areas of conflict, as well as the key policy makers who shape events in those countries.
Kate's photographs have been published across the globe and she has been the recipient of numerous international awards, including PDN 30, POYI, Lucie Awards, Communication Arts, American Photography. She has exhibited in group and solo shows in Europe, the U.S. and the U.A.E.
